検索大手グーグルが中国からのサイバー攻撃に対してクリントン長官は
中国の検閲を批判した。
中国側は「事実に反する（クリントン長官の）コメントや行為に断固として反対する」との強硬姿勢を示し、
「事実を尊重し、いわゆる『インターネットの自由』問題で中国を理不尽に批判することを中止」するよう米国に求めた。
しかし、中国には言論の自由もインターネットの自由も無いのは事実である。
ハフィントン・ポスト（ネットニュースサイト）では、インターネットの自由は今後
教育、ビジネス、社会に最も多きな影響を与え、
民主主義を広め、人権を守る役割欠かせないものになっていくと断言している。
インターネットは自由そのものだ。
